About the Job

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role


We have an exciting opportunity for experienced Podiatrists to join our Hospital based Podiatry Active Foot Team to meet the demand within the region. We are seeking experienced podiatrists with the skills and knowledge to provide evidence based practice to assess, treat and manage complex high risk foot wounds and active foot conditions.


You will work as part of a small team of podiatrists providing assessment, treatment and management of active high risk foot conditions primarily in outpatient clinics based at Hutt Hospital. The caseload includes highly complex, diverse people with high risk foot wounds and active foot conditions, the majority with diabetes and vascular complications.


The podiatry team liaises closely with other services, primarily Orthopaedics, Diabetes, Orthodontics and Wound Specialist Nurses onsite and the Vascular MDT team offsite.


Facilitation and co-ordination of combined appointments to optimise patient outcomes. Work alongside orthopaedics, diabetes, wound specialist nurses, orthotists, renal, dermatology, rheumatology and infectious disease specialists, district nursing, GP practices, community podiatrists, outreach services, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, dietitians, social workers to improve patient outcomes and reduce amputation and hospital admission rates for diabetes foot complications and other high risk foot populations.

We are a small team of committed professionals working together with the larger team to reduce amputations and optimise outcomes for those eligible for hospital level podiatry. The Podiatry team currently sits in Community, Allied Health and Older Adults Outpatient Services Directorate, located in General Outpatients with two dedicated Podiatry rooms.


We are undergoing transformation to become one team across the District. Our team aims to deliver excellence in practice as part of a team of highly skilled, highly motivated and supportive outpatient clinicians. Opportunities for continuing professional development, supervision and mentoring, and being part of audit and research activities.


Moū – About you


We're looking for:

  • Three years clinical experience (desirable). New and recent graduates are encouraged to apply (appropriate support and mentoring to develop skills and experience will be provided).

  • Experience in a high risk foot setting with skills in wound assessment and debridement and management of the high risk foot (desirable).

  • Podiatrists Board of New Zealand: Registration and Annual Practising Certificate.

  • Eligible to work in New Zealand.

  • Memberships: New Zealand Wound Care Society and New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (desirable).

  • Experience in multi-disciplinary setting (desirable).

  • Excellent communication.

  • Team player.

  • Professional independence and competence, ability to recognise the value of case discussions and decisions.

  • Motivated to be part of audits, research projects and working to top of scope through up to date evidence-based best practice.
