About the Event
PodNZ Diabetes Journal Club
Peer group meeting for those interested in research of the Diabetic Foot
Podiatry NZ is creating a new place to meet for you to keep updated on current findings in diabetes research. This will aid in building a competence that inspires critical thinking skills which may modify how you practice, thus lifting standards of practice to patients in your care.
In the first monthly session your presenters Simon and Cynthia will go through two tasks. Firstly, give an introductory presentation on world views that inform the different types of research commonly seen in diabetes literature. This is quite informative and may provide you with an opportunity to review types of research that you may not be familiar with.
In the second part of the session, they will show you how to review a research article. This is where strengths and weaknesses are identified but also new knowledge is gained that can improve your practice technique.
When you enrol you will be provided with the research article that we will be reviewed in the meeting. Give it a go prior as the critical analysis tool will be provided. Use this tool to review the article step by step and see what you come up with. You do not have to be an expert! While it may be authored by a highly respected figure in the world of the Diabetic Foot do not be phased. there are still elements that can be identified which can strengthen the paper and others that are really good as they are! There may also be questions that arise which are all part of critical thinking perspectives. These can be discussed in the meeting. Jot them down and we will see you there!
First Paper to be Reviewed: "People living with diabetes are unaware of their foot risk status or why they are referred to a multidisciplinary foot team". You will receive links when you enrol.
Our Presenters:
Simon Speight and Cynthia Otene.
Cynthia and Simon both hold Master’s Degrees relevant to Podiatry and are keen to use the skills we have to aid in the improvement of others clinical skills through this forum.
